Berardo, Matthews impress again in loss to Trojans
The boys volleyball team went back on the road last night when they took on the Midlothian Trojans at Midlothian High School. In a three set sweep, the Cavs saw their two game win streak come to an end.
Facing one of the toughest teams in the Dominion District, the Cavaliers found themselves trying to scrape away any points they could in the match. Midlothian came into the night with an undefeated 4-0 record, while only allowing one set win all season.
The Trojans showed their competitive tenacity early on, as they took the first two sets by seven and 11 points, respectively. The last set; however, was more competitive, as the Cavaliers fought from behind and came within three points in their ultimate 25 to 22 defeat in the set. That third set carried the match and Midlothian sat down the Cavaliers by a score of three sets to zero.
Even having lost the match, a few key players stepped up and impressed in the game. Those players include junior Brayden Berardo and senior Bryce Matthews. Berardo scored four kills in the three set match, winning the Cavalier Chronicle Player of the Game award for the second consecutive contest. Also, Matthews matched Berardo’s mark with four kills.
The Cavaliers will be back at home on Thursday, Sept. 15. After falling to Midlothian last night, the Cavs will look to bounce back against the Monacan Chiefs (5-4).
