Filling the position left open following the retirement of long-time Clover Hill office manager, Jenny Honings, former Crenshaw Elementary manager Stephanie Mitchell has taken the reins in the front office.
Growing up in Roanoke, Virginia, Mitchell graduated from Patrick Henry High School, where she met her husband and managed the wrestling team. During high school, Mitchell had already decided she wanted to teach kids.
“When I was younger, I always wanted to be a kindergarten teacher,” Mitchell said. “Kindergarten is a really important time in a child’s life.”
Mitchell has a bachelor’s in childhood studies from Liberty University. Following college, she got married and had kids. Focusing on her family is one of the most important things to her.
“When you have a family it really hones in on your priorities,” Mitchell said.
As her children grew, she was able to focus more on herself and decided to work.
She was a secretary at Crenshaw Elementary for four years before making the move to Clover Hill.
“The opportunity came when I was working at an elementary school, and I took it,” Mitchell said. “It would give me more responsibilities and would be a challenge.”
As a senior office manager, Mitchell is responsible for, among other duties, keeping Dr. Phillips’ calendar and making sure everything runs smoothly.
“A pro is that I’m meeting with all these people and get to socialize, and just be positive,” Mitchell said. “A con is that I’m always having to find more work.”
Overall, Mitchell has enjoyed her first few months on the Hill.
“I love it here,” Mitchell said.
