On Saturday Dec. 9, Clover Hill’s debate team placed second out of 29 schools at the Petersburg Holiday Invitational Tournament. Deeba Lealaz was undefeated and placed first in the Lincoln-Douglas debate. Alexander Cabral and Evan Learn placed third in Public Forum debate. In Student Congress, Lydia Joh placed second and Randy Ashie placed fourth. Julia Herald led the Forensics team with a second place finish in Dramatic Interpretation.
This is Herald’s second year in debate, and she has never done dramatic interpretation before. Although she was nervous and did not know what to expect, her leap of faith helped her to try something new and succeed at it.
“There were about fifteen people, and I placed second, so I was proud of myself,” Herald said. “My speech coach, Mr. Barker, he really helped me to be the best that I could be.”
Herald hopes to improve her skills, and aim for a higher place next time.
“Next competition, first place is what I’m striving for.”
