Clover Hill High School opened in 1972 at 13900 Hull Street Rd. The original building, what we now know as the Hull Street Tech Center, housed the school for over 30 years before moving to the “new” Clover Hill in 2010. An important part of the high school experience, school spirit at The Hill is best viewed through our traditions. In recent years, traditions include walking through your elementary schools before graduation, competing for the Spirit Stick at the Homecoming Pep Rally, the winter Faculty vs Student basketball game, the Senior Sunrise, the Powerpuff Football game and Senior Takeover Day. But not all traditions last forever. Over the years, Clover Hill has seen some crazy activities performed in the name of “school spirit”. Here is a look back in time at some of the most interesting Cavalier traditions over the years.
A Masked Mascot:
You may think that we have had a physical mascot since the beginning of Clover Hill, but in reality we did not have an actual mascot for over 20 years. Just a drawing on paper, until 1990 when someone dressed up as the Cavalier for a pep rally. After many years of gracing Cavalier sporting events, once again we are without a mascot. Where is the Cav Man? When will he come back? Only time will tell.
Weddings each year:
In the 1970’s, the long-defunct “Family Management” class organized, planned and
performed an annual mock-wedding in front of students every year. A bridal party was chosen from each of the classes, and students spent many weeks learning the necessities of a successful marriage and even planned their own mock-weddings in pairs.
Even though the wedding was fake, many wedding traditions were performed at the reception. The best man’s toast was given, the cake was eaten, the garter was removed and the flowers were thrown.
Sophomores sell their services:
Among the strangest traditions that has gone by the wayside, in the early-90’s, sophomores used to “sell” their services for the day! Students could bid for a sophomore to help with things throughout the day. Three days before the actual event, freshman, juniors, seniors and even other sophomores gathered in crowds during lunch to bid for a sophomore. During the latter part of the week, money was put down for the rentee. According to yearbook records, bidding was very competitive, with money going to the sophomore class fund.
By Thursday, all money had to be paid in full so that by Friday the renter could receive their sophomore. Sophomores did crazy things. Former Clover Hill alumni, Chris Silva and Shem Welch carried Greg Sparrow through the halls. The two also demonstrated their talented musical ability in lunch by singing The Righteous Brothers’ “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling”. It was a wild day for all the sophomores and everyone who participated in the event.
Car Parade:
Until relatively recently, there was a large parade before the homecoming football game, with each grade getting to decorate a float to show off at the homecoming game. The homecoming court was also paraded around on the back of various convertibles.
Fashion Shows:
Every year the Fashion Merchandising students gave the Clover Hill High School a taste of the new fashions. During the 1980s, the students and faculty were treated to both a fall and a spring show. The Fashion Show had different themes for each show including “Winter Wonderland, Fall Forward, I like your style, and Vogue. Here, students were given a chance to see casual clothes for the summer and, also, formal wear for the prom. The shows were not all fun and games, though. The fashion students played a large role in the making of the show. First, they had to find the merchandisers to lend Clover Hill the clothes. Next, they had to make sure everything was perfect for the show, like the display and the music. Then they had to get up in front of their friends and other students to model the clothes.
So as the years go on and we make more traditions of our own the question must be asked, which events would you bring back?

I really liked how there used to be car parade traditions for hoco and I think Clover Hill should bring that back.
