Torie Satterwhite is a senior at Clover Hill High School and has been Clover Hill High Schools star sprinter all her four years of high school. Throughout her time at CHHS, she has broken numerous records and has helped keep the CHHS sprinter team at the top.
Satterwhite started her track career in sixth grade where she found her talent and love for the sport.
“I just always liked running fast and decided to join the track team and I just loved it ever since,” Satterwhite said.
At first, Satterwhite was not aware of any talent that she had in track. She just enjoyed the act of running and continued to engage in it for entertainment.
“It’s just something that I kind of grew to love doing,” Satterwhite said. “Never thought I had a talent.”
Over the years of running track Satterwhite found her strengths in certain events. For her outdoor season, the 400 meters is her best event with a personal record (pr) of 59.89 and for her indoor season her best event is the 300 meters.
“My pr for the 300 is 41.51 which is the school record,” Satterwhite said.
From working hard at track, Satterwhite has to make time to focus on herself and school. As Satterwhite is a senior at Clover Hill, having to figure out ways to make time for herself, school, and social life is quite difficult to manage and commit to.
“It is a little tough to be honest because not only am I trying to manage to keep my personal and emotional for school, I’m trying to keep it for track,” Satterwhite said. “So you have to figure out a way to balance it out but I make sure I have time to have fun as well as keep up with school and do what I am supposed to do.”
From years of running track, Satterwhite has learned numerous lessons and advice that she uses to help her in her track career and in life.
“[I have learned] to be patient with track and in life and to be grateful for what you’re able to achieve rather than what didn’t happen or what should have happened,” Satterwhite said.
For the near future, Satterwhite plans to commit to Virginia State University (VSU) to run track as a Division 3 athlete. Satterwhite knew that she wanted to run track in college since her freshman year and felt like VSU was able to offer her the opportunities that she desired as an athlete.
“I love the campus and the environment and they have my specific major. I met some of the track athletes there and they were really nice. They were really supportive just like a family,” Satterwhite said.
Satterwhite plans on becoming a nutritionist and running track on the side and potentially making track a full time career for her after she graduates college.
“I want to continue running track after college and also be a nutritionist by that point,” Satterwhite said.
Satterwhite believes that she is ready to take on the next step in her track career at VSU. Satterwhite hopes to continue to get better at track so that she is better prepared for the change that comes from high school track to college track.
