Disruption in the student parking lot is haunting Clover Hill. The cause: adults retrieving or dropping off their students within it.
Junior Bryce Powers, a student driver, expressed his opinion on the matter.
“Adults completely slow it down and increase danger for students who aren’t used to such a high population within the lot,” Powers said.
Countless students have strong opinions similar to Powers. Something needed to be done to prevent any danger while students commute.
Junior driver at Clover Hill, Leevi Marshall, believes that enforcement is difficult, but something needs to change.
“It’s hard for them to monitor what adults are doing and no one has really brought up the issue to the admin,” Marshall said.
Responding to student concerns the Dean of students, Alana Hartman-Hall, took quick action.
“We can definitely talk to Mr. Altizer about putting up more signage stating the parking lot is closed during certain times to make it a little more visible,” Hartman-Hall said.
Adults are impatient when it comes to transportation of students, and their actions have shown the lengths they will go to be ahead. Anger springs from a chain reaction of this extreme complex of needing to be first.
“It makes me in a rush. It makes things feel more urgent,” Powers said.
Being in a rush while driving is extremely dangerous, and according to an Axios report, adults in Virginia are becoming more and more aggressive.
“One time an adult gave me the ‘finger’ and yelled at me for accidentally cutting them off while trying to leave the parking lot,” Powers said.
Steps are being taken to bring more attention to this unseen hazard. Clover Hill student drivers are ready to see this change emerge no matter how long it takes, we are ready to feel safe leaving and entering our high school.

I completely agree! Getting out of the parking lot, especially towards the end of the day, is extremely difficult. I hope this can bring attention to Admin so that necessary change can be made.
