A bright light at Clover Hill, Andra Berney, has sadly passed away and was an important person to many.

Berney has struggled with her mental health for the majority of her life and on July 27, 2024 she took her own life. Berney’s memorial was hosted September 14, 2024. Her family, friends, classmates, teachers, coworkers and teammates came to share stories and special memories of her.

Berney was in her first year of marching band color guard, where many knew her from the Math and Science program, where she blossomed many new friendships. She also was a part of Clover Hill’s show choir for one year. Berney was a high achiever and did well academically. While being a part of Clover Hill’s Math and Science program, she made many friends and achievements. Many people saw Berney as a close friend and even family.

Suicide is never an easy thing to deal with. If you or anyone you know is struggling, never hesitate to tell someone. Reaching out is the best thing you can do. Even if the person makes passing jokes about these things, you will never know if they are truly jokes. If you feel like someone is going to harm themselves it’s always better to say something and be wrong than not say anything and you lose someone important. 

You should always check up on the ones you love. You never know if they plan for it to be their last day. Simply saying that you love them and that you are there for them could change everything. Losing a friend is something no teenager should have to go through.
