The Chesterfield County School Board appointed a new superintendent last month, Dr. John Murray.
Murray will fill the position that the previous superintendent, Dr. Mervin Daugherty, left empty when he retired in April. He is the first Chesterfield County superintendent in 104 years who attended a school in the county.
Murray had already been serving as an interim superintendent since September 1st before being permanently appointed. He has also held several other administrative positions in the county, including roles as the principal of Matoaca High School and Carver Middle School.
Even after taking several months to search across the country for a new superintendent, the School Board unanimously agreed that Murray would be the best choice.
