Get ready to rock! Clover Hill’s Tri-M Music Honor Society is hosting Jammin’ on the Hill on Thursday, Mar. 13th, at 6 pm in the auditorium.
Jammin’ on the Hill is not an average school concert. Student bands will perform and battle it out for the title of best band. The event is organized by the Tri-M Music Honors Society with help from Orchestra and Guitar teacher Teresa Maclin.
Last year, Lance and the Lovelies, Purple, and Supertonic performed, and this year they are all returning with the addition of two more bands.
“We have five bands that are signed up, and it is a blend mostly of Clover Hill students, but we have some bands with guest members,” Maclin said. “Some of them [are] alumni, [and] we even have one drummer coming from Goochland County.”
Each band will have an allotted set of 12-15 minutes, and will cover a variety of different genres from rock to blues and jazz. Maclin says to come expecting surprises and out of the box performances and techniques special to each band.
“We have a good mix of genres from rock and roll and blues to jazz,” Maclin said. “I know the vocal technique called fry screaming will be involved with a particular band and some grunge.”
Maclin encourages people to come out and enjoy a show that will not be an average school music performance. She expresses her respect for students that have maybe stepped out of their comfort zones to put themselves out there while sharing their musical gifts with their friends and family.
“You have great reasons to come out and watch your friends perform in a light that you don’t usually see them perform,” Maclin said. “This isn’t just an orchestra, band, or choir. These are unique performance ensembles that don’t often get a chance to be showcased on the big stage by themselves.”
Tickets will be sold at the door for five dollars. Both cash and electronic payments will be accepted, so come out on the Hill to celebrate unique talent and new music.
“Come out, have a good time, and cheer on your friends!” Maclin said.
