Tucked beside Midlothian Turnpike under a cozy awning, the Diner at Coal Mine Coffee & Sweets is a familiar establishment. Walking in, you are immediately met with the smell of fresh baked goods and the hug of coffee beans; the diner is full of life.

Majority of the kitchen is visible with employees hard at work behind the open bar-like seating. Directly next to the door lays shelves full of local artist’s creations that are for sale. The diner is decorated with love and full of friendly chatter.
The feeling of this dinner can be compared to the famous fictional diner known as Luke’s Diner from “Gilmore Girls,” a popular show featured on Netflix.

Employees welcomed me kindly and seated me shortly after. I had the pleasure of enjoying a caramel macchiato and a fresh apple danish. My coffee was perfectly sweet and a decent portion size, perfect along with the apple danish. The apple danish shared the generous portion size of the caramel macchiato and had a warm center of freshly baked apples.
All warm drinks are served in a range of unique mugs that are collected by the diner. This filled me with a feeling of comfort and quickly became what I could see as a second home.
Towards the end of the diner, a warm and welcoming conversion area for people of all ages awaits. This area contains a cozy rug and heater adding to the already cozy atmosphere. The space also contains an array of board games, children’s toys, and a range of other entertainment materials.
As my friend and I chatted while enjoying our satisfying meals, we were regularly checked on and cared for by the employees. The friendly atmosphere of The Diner At Coal Mine Coffee & Sweet’s, had me never wanting to lift off my seat and leave through the wonderful door I entered through.
If you are looking for an affordable, cozy, and yummy place to reset your mind and taste buds, walk right on through the door of Coal Mine Coffee and welcome the struggle of attempting to leave full of delicious coffee and pastries.
