Annelies Marie Frank, a Jewish German-born girl, started her love for writing in an unfortunate way. Germany in the 1930’s , was a time of great division. The Nazi party arose during this time and began their genocide of ethnically Jewish people.
Anne Frank dreamed of being a published writer. She began journaling about her experience during the rise of the Nazi party, in 1942, on her thirteenth birthday. As the Nazi’s forced any remaining ethnically Jewish people into hiding, Anne’s family had to follow suit. Her family hid in a secret annex, the size of a small closet, behind a bookshelf, for two years.
During this time, Anne continued to document everyday of her and her family’s life behind the bookshelf. Anne’s journal contributed immensely to putting together the correct history of Jewish people in hiding during the Holocaust.
At only 13, Anne Frank watched her world fall apart. Her love for school was diminished as she wasn’t allowed to step foot out of the annex. Her loved ones were taken from her and placed in concentration camps;torture camps where Jewish people were treated inhumanly and murdered.
Anne and her family were unfortunately found in their annex and were taken to a concentration camp in 1944, where they were split apart from each other. She was later killed at only 16 years old at Bergen-Belsen concentration camp.
Her dreams of being a published writer came true in 1947. Anne Frank is a symbol of strength and perseverance. Her bravery seen through her journals, has inspired many and encouraged many people to recognize evil before it occurs.
Anne Frank has saved lives far beyond Germany, and continues to be a beacon of hope. Women around the world recognize Anne Frank’s efforts to better the lives of the oppressed.
