Kicking the 2025 season off with two wins over Monacan on March 18th, both the boys and girls tennis teams are looking excellent coming out of the offseason. The boys defeated Monacan 6-4, while the girls only gave up one loss, resulting in an 8-1 win over the Chiefs.
Both teams have overseen recent coaching staff changes, with Clover Hill United States history teacher Fahim Rahman stepping up to lead the girls, and gym teacher Marley Guidry taking on the role to coach the boys. With Coach Rahman’s incredible talent and leadership, the girls became a powerhouse in Class 5, finishing the season 16-0, along with an incredibly strong run in the 5C playoffs. Coach Rahman is looking forward to another successful year.
“I’m really excited about it. We’re keeping a lot of the same players, but we lost two starters from last season and we have new exciting possibilities about who will fill those spots,” said Rahman.
Despite the loss of two seniors, there are still multiple returning players, and losing talent does not seem to be affecting this team.
“I think we have a lot of really talented athletes on the team, and they worked really hard every single day last season,” said Rahman.
Sophomore Arina Teverovska has high hopes for the upcoming season and believes that the team will be able to make up for the lost players.
“Most of our players from last year are still here and we’ve been practicing a lot so I think we’re going to have a good season,” said Teverovska.
Following a historical first season, Coach Rahman has high hopes and even higher expectations for his second year with Clover Hill. His first season was a great success, and coaching for the first time provided an incredible learning experience.
“I had never really coached anything before, so I was kind of going off of what my coaches before did, and it exposed me to a new perspective,” said Rahman, “I cultivated my own approach to practices, and learned a lot.”
With the 2025 tennis season off to a great start, both teams look to dominate their schedule and advance to playoffs, in the hopes to make an incredible postseason run once again.
