A viral trend, sparked by the University of South Carolina (USC), promotes mental health awareness by participants getting ice cold water dumped on themselves.
This trend is sparked by the USC MIND club which stands for Mental Illness Needs Discussion. Their mission is to end stigmatism around mental health discussions by promoting support on their campus. The group believes in the power of open discussions, daily mindfulness, and suicide prevention.
This trend is the resurgence of a 2014 ice bucket challenge. Within twenty four hours after being nominated, you are supposed to dump a bucket of ice water on you and nominate three people to do the same. A lesser known fact is that this club is partnered with Active Minds Organization and upon nomination, donations are encouraged. This trend is being spread by #SpeakYourMind on Instagram which is where the trend started.
This trend has spread to Clover Hill and many other schools around with lots of Cavaliers taking the challenge and spreading awareness for mental health.
