Students at Clover Hill High School have the option to choose how many classes they want to take during their senior year.
Clover Hill seniors agreed that having a shortened schedule has an overall positive impact on their lifestyle outside of school. Students often struggle to manage a full seven classes, which takes up their time in the afternoon. Many of them that have this shortened schedule often use their time to work more or train for sports. Senior Brielle Reid feels that it is easier to manage her time.
“I feel like having a shortened schedule gives me good time management,” Reid said.
While having a shortened schedule, students feel it is easier to get work done outside of school. Senior Michael Wilson understands that he has more time to finish all of his homework at home.
“I spend it [free classes] finishing all my homework on time,” Wilson said.
Those who have the availability for less classes have the choice of a fourth block or first block off from school. When they do not have a first block they are able to focus more on getting more sleep, which sets them up ready for the school day. They are able to exercise or get more work done before bed knowing they have an extra hour to sleep in.
“Because of my shortened schedule, I feel like I can stay out longer and get more work in because I do not have to wake up as early,” Wilson said.
Some individuals decide to only take one class less than the normal seven classes. Seniors understand that with this shortened schedule they have to use their time wisely.
Athletes at Clover Hill have to take at least five classes if they want to continue to play senior year. Many seniors that choose to take fewer classes to stay with their sports team end up enjoying their season more because they have more time to dedicate towards their sport. Senior Lucas Rose is taking six classes so that he can continue to play baseball.
“[I take] six [classes],” Rose said. “I have to at least take five for my sport.”
Many students tend to use the shortened schedule their senior year as an advantage to get more work done and stay tuned into their classes. Getting more adequate sleep every night and training for sports teams are responsibilities that keep them accountable.
