While events at Clover Hill are starting to wind down as we approach the end of the school year, Clover Hill’s choirs are planning to burn out rather than fade away. Clover Hill’s Chorus Department will be hosting its Spring Concert on April 29th at 7:30pm.
Chorus teacher Nicole Whitby expressed hopefulness at the improvement in the show and morale of the performers since the beginning of the year and how it will play out at the concert.
“I’m hoping since it’s our last one a lot of confidence building has happened throughout the year,” Whitby said.
Arianna Sosa, a performer in both Iridescence and New Dimensions, Clover Hill’s two show choir groups, explained similar feelings in the progress that the group has made up to this point and enthusiasm in wanting to prove that.
“I hope it’s definitely our best one yet because we’ve improved so much from the beginning,” Sosa said. “I definitely want to do the best I’ve ever done.”
On the topic of the excitement for the last performance, Sosa also spoke about the excitement in performing some specific numbers within the show.
“[Favorite piece to perform is] Probably Fabulous from High School Musical because it’s a really fun piece, and it’s also really cute and kind of cocky because we’re fabulous; it’s just really fun to perform,” Sosa said.
Regarding the pieces that will be performed in the show, Whitby also expressed excitement for the queue for songs this year, especially for some specific pieces and how they will land for the audience.
“I am most excited about the concert choirs because this year I actually put some time into figuring out what music they will be singing and i also gave them input for what they wanted to sing so we have some pretty cool songs selected and I’m excited to get those on stage,” Whitby said. “I think [the favorite piece that will be performed] Acropolis’s mashup between Rumour Has It and Someone Like You by Adele, I’m really excited about that one because everyone knows it so I think it will be a good crowd pleaser and because we’re adding a drum set so it’s going to be fun to have other instruments besides just the piano.”
However with excitement of performing Whitby also shared the conflicting emotions that this marker for the end of the season can bring.
“It’s always kind of bittersweet, cause I never want to see my seniors leave,” Whitby said.
Sosa shared a sentiment of valuing this performance as the closing of the year and last on stage moment with this group of people.
“I am excited about performing our shows one last time because it’s the last time with our seniors and just this same group of people; just this year has been so special just because everyones been friends and we just have a really good friendship with each other, so i’m really excited to perform it together with this group,” Sosa said.
Although saying goodbye is never easy, Whitby also shared how the spring concert can be a chance for closure to a great season overall.
“I just want to make sure the kids literally leave it all on stage so they feel proud of themselves when they walk off,” Whitby said, “I’m hoping they go out with a bang.”
