‘A Minecraft Movie’ came out to mixed reviews, but has led to a social media frenzy among Clover Hill students.
A movie mixed with comedy, action, and dramatic scenes, has gotten lots of attention as fans of the videogame have wanted a film adaptation for many years. Students at Clover Hill all agreed that the humor in the movie was a standout performance. Junior Clayton Washington not only thought that the comedy was properly delivered, but the story line was filmed well.
“It [A Minecraft Movie] was funny and it had a good story line,” Washington said.
Many moviegoers enjoyed the joke in the movie which has started a controversial trend called “Chicken Jockey.” Freshman Evan Marshall was a fan of it.
“My favorite part was chicken jockey,” Marshall said.
The trend that some participate in involves trashing the theatre when the character Steve says “Chicken Jockey” and has resulted in many being kicked out of the theatre after doing so. This has led to discontent from some attendees like Senior Sophia Rivera.
“My least favorite part of the movie was the theater audience,” Rivera said.
There were details in the movie that were recognized by watchers that were paying close attention. Many famous Mincecraft Youtubers had minor roles in the movie. This drew lots of attention to many individuals in the audience. Rivera enjoyed this part specifically.
“There were Minecraft youtubers like DanTDM.” Rivera said.
There were a couple areas in the movie that the viewers thought could be improved upon.
“My least favorite part was [at] the beginning with the long driving,” Marshall said.
Some attendees also had issues with the visual effects.
“The plot was boring, [and with] the CGI, you could tell that it was a green screen,” Rivera said.
The movie had multiple references to the game itself, one original element not present in the game was the tater tot launcher used by the character Henry. The audience enjoyed the action and unique display of this item.
“There was a lot of new stuff like tater tot launchers compared to the video game” Marshall said.
This movie overall garnered attention from students and families alike.
“It was really fun because I went with my friends,” Marshall said.
Washington had a perspective of the movie that many individuals did not see. He saw it as containing a positive message about perseverance and trying until you succeed.
“The message was [that] you should never give up because you [always] have a second chance,” Washington said.
With stars like Jack Black, Jason Momoa, and Jennifer Coolidge, the actors’ performances were bound to capture the intrigue of the audience.
“I would give the best performance to Jason Momoa. It was a role that fit him very well,” Washington said.
This movie proved to be a strong continuation of the legacy in the Minecraft franchise.

I remember watching the movie when it came out pretty well, I went with three friends to go see it in the theater. For me personally, the movie was really enjoyable, though, I wouldn’t say that was because it was good… I would have to agree with Rivera, about the fact that the plot was pretty.. boring. It was pretty basic, to be expected of a kids movie, but it also felt like it was missing so much? It felt as if scenes and plots had been cut out… Like I’m not the only one that missed the part where Dawn developed any sort of relationship with Dennis? (I also assume I’m not the only one who had to Google to figure out her name), or maybe I really did just happen to miss it. Anyway, I’d have to differ on the audience part though, as the people at the theater I was in were pretty funny; this little boy kept yelling and saying random things.
Overall, I’d say the visuals and comedy were there, just a very ‘gen alpha’ speed movie, felt like watching brainrot on x2 speed.
