Music has been known to connect people, and on the Hill, it has sparked the start of friendships and broken the ice between different groups. Walking the halls of Clover Hill, the question remains, what are the students of Clover Hill listening to?
The main album genre played in the air pods of many students here is rap music. One of the many students who mentioned listening to rap is freshman Naomi Lewis. Lewis shared her favorite album and believes the artist of this album is great because he only tells the truth is his songs.
“My favorite album is “Certified Lover Boy” by Drake because he only speaks facts,” Lewis said.
Next, English teacher, Megan Southworth mentions listening to a very popular female pop artist.
Southworth listens to this album by this artist on repeat and will not skip twelve out of the thirteen songs on the album.
“Obviously my favorite artist is Taylor Swift, my favorite album is hard to pick though, I love all of her albums, although I guess I would say “1989” is my top album by her,” Southworth said.
Another student who really enjoys listening to rap music is sophomore Alexis Shackleford. The artist of her favorite album is a Florida-based songwriter who made the Top 40 hit “Heart on Ice”.
“My favorite album is “Nostalgia” by Rod Wave because he is very relatable to me,” Shackleford said.
The next top album of Clover Hill is one of Junior Will Lohr’s favorites. This album is not a part of the rap genre like most of the others, but instead is alternative rock. The band that Lohr mentioned made an outro song for the popular movie “Romeo + Juliet” the 1996 version. This band has been on MTV’s Beach House which when they performed the song “Anyone Can Play Guitar”. His favorite album is “In Rainbows” by Radiohead.
“[It’s my favorite album] because I think it is just the easiest and most interesting to listen to. It has the most listenable songs out of any other album I have listened to,” Lohr said. “With other albums I feel like there are some songs that are good and other songs that’s like ‘why is this even on here?’”
Furthermore, our last top album from Clover Hill is Junior Bailey Burket’s. This album is a country album and a self-titled project that was released this year. The artist who made the album is known for his songs such as “Pretty Heart” and “Handle On You”.
“[My favorite album] probably is Parker McCollum’s new album ‘What Kinda Man’” Burket said. “[It is my favorite album] because it’s country and country is my favorite genre and it is just very upbeat and fun.”
From rap and pop to rock and country, the wide variety of music tastes at Clover Hill are as diverse as the students themselves. Each of the chosen albums speaks directly to someone’s story, so ask yourself: what’s playing in your headphones, and what does it say about you?

I think it is very cool to see such a wide array of taste. Truly goes to show that this school can be so much more diverse than one may realize. With the various tastes in music, it can really widen one’s horizon and even begin hew friendships.

This article was very interesting because you don’t realize how diverse our school is until you actually talk to people and get to know them. 4 different genres from 4 different kids out of hundreds makes you think about what other kids would say and how many kids would see that they have similar taste in music. Music is a part of most peoples lives and seeing what our peers like to listen too and knowing that there are others that listen to the same genres is very wholesome and creates a sense of community.

I really enjoyed this article, it shows the different type of music people listen to at Clover Hill. It’s interesting to see how these genres are represented, and how it connects people and expresses themselves. I liked how it shows opinions from students and a teacher. It made me think about the music that I am listening to.

One of my favorite TicTok trend is the one where you go up to somebody and ask what song their listening to. Its always interesting to so what people listen to and how their upbringing lead to them listening to that music. I listen to rock and metal because my parents liked it and they listened to it. Which lead to my favorite album being hybrid theory by Linkin Park.

I feel this is true, because music is a universal language that can connect people from different backgrounds and cultures, even those who don’t share a spoken language. Secondly, the rhythm in music that syncs our brains and coordinates our body movements with others, creating a sense of unity within a crowd.

I love how each person has different music tastes and each type of music can express or explain how a person feels/acts. Music can bring people together in all sorts of ways. We take for granted how lucky we are to have any song we want at the tip of our fingers.
