As the Clover Hill football team starts workouts again, they are rapidly improving and preparing for next season.
The team’s offense has lacked in previous years but they are looking forward to using their new tactics and players to stand out and dominate other schools. Senior Chase Nelson is continuing to help athletes understand these tactics.
“We’re running a different offensive scheme for next year,” Nelson said.
With transfers being extremely common in Chesterfield County for football athletes, the Cavs are excited and confident in their new quarterback coming to Clover Hill, Jackson Simmons.
“Jackson Simmons just transferred in to be our new quarterback. He has potential to be very good,” Nelson said.
The effort the team is going to put in this year is going to be astonishing. Other high schools are not going to be prepared to deal with this new and improved football team that is striving for greatness. Junior Kerry Williams understands the work that they will have to put in to succeed.
“We’re working every day, grinding every day, getting better every day, striving for greatness,” Williams said.
Putting aside their past struggles, the team is filled with leaders who have a strong commitment to the team. These leaders are going to help the team prepare for an intense but hard working season.
“Kerry has stepped up into a pretty big role,” Nelson said.
New coaching at Clover Hill is going to change players’ mindsets and help them succeed. Students are confident in the new coaching styles coming to the team.
“We have a new head coach, Coach Hutchens. He’s changing the standard here at Clover Hill,” Williams said.
Athletics at Clover Hill depends on leaders to contribute and have an important role in all teams. Underclassmen need to have the same leadership and commitment to these teams that the seniors usually have.
“Some of the young guys want to step up,” Nelson said.
Coaches and students this year are prioritizing having a well rounded, talented team. The depth of the roster is going to make or break the Cavs this upcoming season.
“It’s all about bodies, it’s all about how many people show up on Friday ready to compete,” Kerry said.
As the Clover Hill football team pushes through offseason workouts, their renewed energy, strong leadership, and commitment to improvement, is what is going to carry them through to the next season.
