When Michael Wilson first stepped onto the practice field as a freshman, the varsity lacrosse team was not what it is today. The players lacked cohesion, intensity, and a shared sense of purpose. Four years later, with Wilson at the helm as captain, the transformation is undeniable.
“When I first joined it wasn’t much of a team,” said Wilson. “But now I’ve noticed we push each other to be better as a team.”
It is a testament not only to the team’s growth but to Wilson’s leadership. As a four-year varsity athlete in both lacrosse and golf, Wilson has built a reputation as a strong leader. His teammates say it is his example that fuels their drive.
“Michael unites us and inspires us to do better than we ever have,” said sophomore attackman Coleman James.
As captain, Wilson has guided the lacrosse team through seasons of steady development.
“We really came together as a team,” Wilson said. “A lot of the newer players have gotten a lot better throughout the years. As a captain we’ve really learned to practice and play hard.”
Off the field, Wilson is equally impressive. With a 4.5 GPA, he is a member of the Science National Honor Society, the History National Honor Society, and Beta Club. Balancing academics and athletics is a challenge for all student athletes, but Wilson manages both with ease.
Next fall, Wilson will attend the University of Virginia.
“I decided to go to UVA because I really liked the campus and it’s a really strong school for academics as well,” Wilson said.
Those who know him are not surprised he chose a university known for both its academic rigor and rich traditions. It’s the perfect fit for someone who values excellence, community, and legacy.
Whether it is anchoring an attack line, lining up a tee shot, or leading a class discussion, Wilson does it all with confidence and a determination that elevates everyone around him.
As his time at Clover Hill draws to a close, Wilson leaves behind more than just accolades, he leaves a standard for what it means to lead with passion and inspire through action.
