Nathan McCrea, a senior at Clover Hill High School, is preparing for an exciting future that will take him from his hometown to the prestigious United States Military Academy at West Point. With a commitment to compete on the track and field team and a strong academic record, McCrea’s high school journey exemplifies dedication, discipline, and achievement, both inside and outside the classroom.
McCrea’s academic path has been defined by his passion for challenging himself. He joined Clover Hill’s Math and Science Specialty Center as a freshman, where he immersed himself in honors and Advanced Placement (AP) courses. Over the past four years, McCrea has completed 11 college-level classes, all while maintaining an impressive A/B honor roll. One of his proudest moments came at the senior awards ceremony, where he was one of just five students to receive the prestigious CAV medal, a recognition given to students who exemplify academic excellence and leadership.
“I’ve always challenged myself, and that is why I came to this school in the first place to be in the Math and Science Specialty Center,” McCrea said.
But McCrea’s high school story isn’t just about grades. His athletic journey has been just as impactful. He credits much of his success to his involvement in track and field, a sport he began in 7th grade during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“At first, I hated running, but over time, I’ve grown to love the process and the discipline it instills,” McCrea said. “Through the years, due to my hard work and ambition, I’ve been fortunate to become the regional and national champion in the sport I love.”
This dedication has paid off in a big way. In the most recent indoor track season, McCrea soared to national prominence when he became a national champion in long jump at the Adidas Track Nationals Championship, claiming first place. In addition, McCrea was recognized as an All-American Track and Field athlete for the 2025 season.
“My track journey has been such a huge part of my high school experience. I started running in 7th grade during COVID, where I had a lot of time to improve upon myself,” McCrea said.
McCrea’s achievements extend beyond national titles; he is also a regional champion, a testament to his consistency and growth in the sport. McCrea is looking forward to his future beyond high school. At West Point, he plans to continue competing in track and field while pursuing a college education.
McCrea has proven that with hard work and perseverance, anything is possible. His journey from Clover Hill to West Point is a reminder of the power of determination and the importance of embracing both academic and athletic pursuits. As McCrea looks ahead to the next chapter, one thing is certain: his drive for excellence will continue to propel him to even greater heights, both on the track and in the classroom.
