On Friday, Feb. 3, the Clover Hill Cavalettes dance squad hosted the seventh annual Kelly Green Invitational. The competition consisted of four different dance categories, including Jazz, Pom, Hip-Hop and Lyrical. The Cavalettes did not compete in the competition; however, the members of the team had designated aid roles around the gymnasium, such as stagehands and on-hand problem solvers. Beyond Clover Hill, nine other schools were in attendance, including James River, Mechanicsville, Cosby, Prince George, Thomas Dale, Midlothian, Powhatan, Bishop O’Conell and Manchester.

For the Jazz category, Thomas Dale, Powhatan and Midlothian placed third, second and first, respectively. The Pom category showed similar results with Midlothian and Powhatan scoring the third and second highest scores; however, Bishop O’Connell from Arlington, VA. placed first in the category. Hip Hop unfolded similarly, with Midlothian and Powhatan once again claiming the third and second sports, while Thomas Dale took home the first place trophy. Many of the teams did not participate in the Lyrical category of the competition; however, Bishop O’Connell, Prince George and Manchester scored third, second and first, respectively. This was Manchester’s only event in the Invitational. In addition to all the actual dances, the Most Spirited award was given to the Prince George Royalettes. The award was meant to signify excellence in enthusiasm, positivity, teamwork and crowd support from the traveling supporters.

Overall, the competition was a success, as the dance season is coming to a close.
