Dominant performances by senior Cameron McCann and sophomore Lawson MacAuley led the way for the Cavaliers in a 17-8 victory over the Goochland Bulldogs.

McCann was one of five seniors recognized before the game. Adam Finley, Landon Cole, Jayden Anderson and John McGowan joined McCann in the pregame festivities, in which they were joined by family in a trip down a spirit line.

McCann started out strong, contributing to the first three goals of the game, scoring the first two himself while assisting on the third. MacAuley scored the goal assisted by McCann. After a second score by MacAuley, McCann scored once more, followed by another goal by MacAuley himself in a first quarter dominated by the Cavalier’s offense.

The Cavs took a 6-0 lead into the second quarter before McCann scored twice more in the span of 17 seconds. Sophomore Everett Aileo also scored a goal in the opening five minutes of the second quarter; however, Goochland scored three unanswered goals to pull the game within six at 9-3. However, the Green and Gold would score twice more before the half, coming courtesy of MacAuley, assisted by McCann once again, and sophomore Kaiden Webb, who scored off of a Cavalier breakaway.

Coming out of halftime, Goochland scored two quick goals in the first three minutes of the third quarter. However, the Cavs were able to find their groove later as MacAuley and McCann once again scored for the Cavaliers to make it 14-5.

Scoring runs became a trend in Monday’s game, with the Bulldogs once again scoring three more unanswered goals to start the fourth quarter. Those three goals; however, would be the last time that Goochland would score in the match. The Bulldogs’ goals were followed by goals from sophomores Michael Wilson and Austin Cornelisse, both assisted by McCann.

The final score of the game came with under two minutes remaining, as Webb found MacAuley on a cut in a Cavalier goal that made the game 17-8.

McCann, a senior, won the Cavalier Chronicle Player of the Game award. He scored six times, while assisting on three occasions after the Senior Night festivities.

After a dominating win on Monday night, the Green and Gold will look to end their home season with a win in their next game against the Manchester Lancers on May 3 at 6 p.m.
