After years of planning and development, The Lake, the “World’s Largest Surf Park on the East Coast” is being built within less than a mile radius of Clover Hill High School, it is predicted to affect Clover Hills environment and the surrounding community.
Set to wrap up the summer
of 2025, “The Lake” will feature 1,200 residential units, two hotels, an amphitheater, restaurants, breweries, and a surf park. It will attract many tourists and increase the population in, and around, Genito Road.
SCA Secretary, Stacy Vargas, states the ups and downs of having this new venture in the proximity of Clover Hill. “I would say it’s bad for traffic and driving but good because kids can go there after school and have an activity, like Sheetz,” Vargas said.
The Lake is going to be a new place where students can go after school or during school holiday breaks. It will also hold great job opportunities for Cavalier students, with its variety of soon-to-be opening shops and restaurants.
Counselor Cori Jackson is concerned about the possible traffic increase, and how that can affect our students. “I think it’s a little worrisome only because we know teenagers and I know [Clover Hill students] go to Sheetz and things like that, ” Jackson said.
As many students and staff know, the parking lots can get suffocating, and traffic can get complicated to navigate through.
“In a safety way, if there’s an increase in traffic then it is alarming, but I’m sure it’s supposed to stimulate the economy to a certain degree. It might get more people to visit Midlothian, tourism does help but it can also be harmful,” said Jackson.
This “one of a kind” park will be a fun recreational activity for all ages, however, many members of the community are eager to see what drawbacks having a place like this so close to the high school will arise.

This is a very interesting article to read about the future innovations coming to Genito road. I agree that it will cause a spike in traffic since it is directly across the school campus, but the place will provide entertainment and festivity to all of the students that want to visit it.

This was very interesting to read about, I agree that it will def cause some traffic issues or at least slow it down. But It will definitely be a good place for students including me to go do stuff with friends after school.

Wow!! This was very well written, I’ve been wondering what that thing was going to be over there, I even heard there making a Chipotle. I’ll have to check The World’s Largest Surf Park on the East Coast out during break.

Very informative! The traffic is certainly a concern, but hopefully the county is prepared to help mitigate any problems.
