Scream 7 slashes into theaters

Does Ghostface need a seventh chance to terrorize teens or was Scream 6 enough?

The saga of Ghostface’s stocking and murder of high school teens comes out with a new movie on Feb. 27, 2026: Scream 7. The million dollar question remains: will it be the final Scream or are they planning on making more?

Many reports and the industry buzz point towards the making of an eighth Scream. It is believed that the eighth movie will be released in Feb. 2027. From an opposite perspective, it is thought that Scream 7 will be the last and act as a spring board for sequels.  The theory of the making of Scream 8 is more common.

Many Scream fans such as teacher William Kaskay are happy to have sequels for all of eternity as they are a significant feature for the genre and it being a beloved saga.

“I am a huge Scream fan, so I am happy with sequels for the rest of all time, especially since horror sequels are a significant feature of the genre, and Scream spoofs other horror series. For example, the Scream (2022) reboot heavily parodies the return of the Halloween series with Halloween (2018),” Kaskay said.

Director Kevin Williamson and Actor Neve Campbell have discussed having this movie act as a “creative reset” for the franchise and turning the focus from gore back to suspense and character driven horror like the original 1996 film. Mainstream horror movie audiences have expressed their interest in this.

“Mainstrem audiences in the 2010s and the 2020s are expressing interest in a return to the way films used to be produced; for example, audiences often want to see practical effects or original projects and ideas. In the same vein, I imagine that some audience members are excited about a resurgence of mystery/suspense in response to the recent popularity of gore and body horror films,” Kaskay said.

One thing is for certain; Scream fans are happy to see a new addition to the saga whether it is a reset for many more films to come or the end of a beloved franchise.
