Thompson returns to action following multiple injuries

On Sunday, Jan 9 Klay Thompson took the court again after 941 days. The crowd did not hesitate to welcome home the 6’6, 220lb shooting guard and neither did the players.

Thompson last played on June 13, 2019, in the NBA finals against the Toronto Raptors, averaging 26.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists. In the third quarter of Game Six of the NBA finals, Thompson tore his ACL after his dunk was contested by Danny Green. Thompson left the game, only to return to the court to shoot his last free throws of the series.

Before the beginning of the 2020-21 season, Thompon suffered from an Achilles injury which kept him out for the entire season. The Achilles injury has proven to be one of the worst injuries an athlete can get affecting Kobe Bryant, Rudy Gay and even Elton Brand.

On Jan 29, 2022, against the Nets, Thompson scored 16 points also scoring the game winner with the final score being 106-110. At the end he commented on the moment saying, “I missed that feeling, it felt absolutely amazing.”
