Announcements:

The Badminton club will be hosting its Spring Raffle now until March 17th. The top 3 winners will receive prizes from Target, Gelati Celesti & Chick-fil-a. Tickets are one dollar with no limit to the number each student can purchase. Stop by room 205 before school for purchases.

The Robotics Club will resume meeting Tuesdays during CAV morning after the Writing SOL. Our next meeting will be March 21st.

Join Enviro and Biology Club next Thursday, March 16th, afterschool for a campus cleanup! This can count for volunteer hours and we will provide snacks and drinks! We will meet in room 008.

There will be a fundraiser at Gelati Celesti for the Japanese Club as the school prepares to welcome ten Japanese Exchange Students. The fundraiser will be Wednesday, March 15 from six p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Swift Creek Gelati Celesti on Hull St Rd.

The library is hosting the elite eight of their Manga Madness bracket. Students can vote in the library to determine the winner of each matchup. The matchups in this round are “Heartstopper” vs. “This One Summer,” “The Walking Dead” vs. “Bone,” “Demon Slayer” vs. “Bleach” and “One Punch Man” vs. “Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun.”

Monday through Thursday of this week will have an altered bell schedule to accommodate for the English 10 Reading and Writing SOL.

 

Last week:

This year’s entries for Clover Hill into the state VHSL Creative Writing contest are from Maddy Bills, Tyler Hamaker, Kyllian Simon, Ella Farias, Lindsey Mull and Abby Ellis.

The show choirs competed at the New England Show Choir Showdown in Andover, Massachusetts against schools from all over the northern east coast. Iridescence received a silver rating and finished as the second runner-up in the treble/bass division, while junior Meera Del Favero won best soloist in the treble/bass division and Big Cheeks show band won best band in the division. New Dimensions earned a gold rating and finished as the second runner-up in the small mixed division, while Big Cheeks once again won best band.

Holocaust survivor Halina Zimm guest spoke in the auditorium to a crowd of students, telling her life story. 

Chesterfield County Public Schools opened their free tutoring service on Stride Tutoring, which is an app on the RapidIdentity student dashboard. Students can sign up for a tutoring session with a qualified teacher in the app. 

 

This week:

Monday (3/13):

The tennis teams will take on Mills Godwin. The boys team will be on the road while the girls team will be at home. The girls match starts at 3:30 p.m. and the boys start at 4:30 p.m. 

The baseball teams will play against Thomas Dale. The junior varsity team is at home and the varsity team is on the road. Both games start at 5 p.m. 

The softball teams will play against Thomas Dale. The junior varsity team is at home and the varsity team is on the road. Both games start at 5 p.m.

 

Tuesday (3/14):

Mu Alpha Theta will meet after school in rooms 415 and 417 to celebrate Pi Day.

The tennis teams will have matches against L.C. Bird. The girls will be on the road and the boys will be at home. Both matches start at 3:30 p.m. 

 

Wednesday (3/15):

There will be a meeting of Cavs for Christ at 8:10 a.m. in room 423. All are welcome to join.

The Young Conservatives Club will meet in room 124.

The Latin Club will meet after school in room 113 from three to four p.m. to celebrate the Ides of March. 

There will be a fundraiser for the Japanese Club as they prepare to welcome 10 Japanese Exchange Students. The fundraiser will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Swift Creek Gelati Celesti on Hull St Rd.

The Film Club will meet after school in Mr. Kaskay’s room to discuss the Oscars.

The girls lacrosse teams will play against Trinity Episcopal on the road. The junior varsity game starts at 4 p.m. and the varsity game starts at 5:30 p.m.

 

Thursday (3/16):

There will be a Medford basketball game in the gym at 11:30 a.m. Students must be with their third block teacher to attend.

The Cursive Club will have a meeting after school in Mr. Goobic’s room.

The Biology club and the Environmental club will host a campus cleanup after school. Students can participate for volunteer hours. There will be snacks and drinks as well. Interested students can meet in room 008 after school.

The induction ceremony for the National Art Honor Society (NAHS) will be in the commons from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. 

 

Friday (3/17):

The Badminton club’s spring raffle ends. This will be the last day for students to stop in room 205 with $1 to purchase a ticket.

 

Saturday (3/18):

Clover Hill will host the VHSL region 5C debate tournament, in which the school’s team will compete. 

 

In the community:

Midlothian’s 21 Spoons restaurant was named “Best Locally Owned Restaurant in Virginia” by the Southern Living magazine. The restaurant is located at 13568 Waterford Pl in the Village at Waterford. 

Chesterfield County released a plan to help combat homelessness. 

Early voting is underway for the ninth district state senate seat vacated by newly elected congresswoman Jennifer McCllelan, who won the open seat in Virginia’s fourth congressional district. The candidates are Democrat Lamont Bagby and Republican Stephen Imholt.
