Tomodachi Life is a game where you can create characters and have them interact in different ways or let them interact with each other on their own. You can have them get married, have babies, and get divorced!
I preordered the sequel, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, the day before its U.S. release on April 16. I have never played the original Tomodachi Life for the 3DS, so this was a new experience for me. When the day came, I played the game as soon as possible and immediately fell in love. So I’ve decided to share my opinions on what I like and dislike about Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream.
First, the things I do like. There are a lot of things I like about it; I absolutely love the amount of inclusivity in this game, from three gender options when creating characters and gay marriage, to two characters of the same gender having a baby. I also love the amount of customization. You can add your own face paint to characters and make your own treasures like food, pets, and music. Treasures can be made in the Palette House along with clothes, objects, house exteriors, interiors, and landscaping. I love the interactions that the Miis can have, even if it’s a bit repetitive, as well as the ability to put your own words into the lingo to make it more interesting.
Now, for the things I don’t personally like. I wish that you could have polyamorous relationships between Miis, and that you could do custom pronouns to be even more inclusive and give more options. A larger area for facepaint when customizing Miis would allow for more creativity. I wish that there was more variety in interactions for Miis because some of them get old quickly. I know a lot of people are upset about the amount of customization in this game, but I personally don’t think there’s enough. Another thing that I would change is the rate at which the babies grow up; there are no stages of growth, it just happens during a cutscene. This is a bit disappointing since I had heard that they grew up over the span of a few days in the 3DS game. I really hope they change most of these in a future update, though it’s unlikely.
If they were to change these things, then this would be game of the year for me, but for now, it will just remain my favorite game.
