This year Clover Hill has had the opportunity to be introduced to an incredible new group of seniors, all of whom have accomplished meaningful things during their time at Clover Hill High School. One of those seniors would be Lance Hughes, Hughes has attended Clover Hill High School since his freshman year, where he was an active part of the community, including playing on the Clover Hill basketball team.

After graduation, Hughes plans to take a gap year and then attend Norfolk State University.

 “I plan to take a gap year, focus more on my businesses, and then go to college at NSU,” Hughes said.

Hughes’s goals show both ambition and dedication, showing he is taking steps ahead, as well as thinking of his future. Although he is a student, he is also an entrepreneur who currently runs two businesses. He coaches four teams of a 13-and-under basketball organization “Legendary Elite,” which he started himself, at Swift Creek Middle School.

In addition to coaching, Lance also has his own baking business, “Legendary Eats and Treats.” He discovered his interest for baking at a young age, and has continued to develop his skills over time. Some of his most popular treats are his Oreo cupcakes and cinnamon rolls.

“My Oreo cupcakes and cinnamon rolls are always a huge hit,” Hughes said.

He then goes on to explain the detail he puts into his craft, taking pride in the details of his work. Hughes is very meticulous about his vanilla frosting, and the Oreo placement in the middle of the cupcake to give his customers that burst of flavor. 

It is clear that Hughes puts a lot of his time into his businesses, and by talking to him, anyone can easily see how passionate he is about the things he has built for himself.

His peers recognize this as well, when asked about Hughes, many of them refer to him as “Legendary Lance.”

Even if you have not met him personally, chances are you have heard about Hughes, and the great things he has accomplished over the last four years. He is a passionate, hardworking, and driven young entrepreneur, and this is only the beginning for him.
