As senior Lily Frantz Laferriere leaves Clover Hill behind, the accomplishments and hard work she has put into the school and surrounding community will not be forgotten.

Over her four years at Clover Hill High School, Frantz Laferriere has played a major role in the community by having over 100 volunteer hours and being involved with a multitude of extracurriculars, leadership positions, and earning well deserved awards.

Frantz Laferriere served as an SCA communications director, National Art Honors Society treasurer, National Honors Society member, Science National Honors Society, Beta club photographer and member, Sources of Strength member, photography club leader, a part of the Principal Advisory committee, a Model County Government participant, and a published author for the Cavalier Chronicle (student newspaper).

Out of all the extracurricular activities Frantz Laferriere has done, she feels that she has excelled the most in being a staff writer for the Cavalier Chronicle. As a first year staff writer the stories she has written have led to sitting in the principals office, calling the county, and making sure the voices of Clover Hill students are heard.

“The stories that were the most informational and the stories that I felt were important to talk about that weren’t being talked about, writing those wrapped up all the influence that I had over the school over the years,” Frantz Laferriere said. “It made me feel like I was doing good for the school in a way I wasn’t seeing other people talking about these issues.”

The awards that Frantz Laferriere won consist of two regional Scholastics Art and Writing gold keys, five regional Scholastics Art and Writing silver keys, Paths of Clover selection, first place in photography in the 2025 Congressional art contest, VHSL State Championships for Film and Animation, and AP scholar with distinction award.

“Looking back I’m the proudest of my first place in photography in the 2025 Congressional art contest,” Frantz Laferriere said. “Knowing that out of all the pieces submitted, mine is what the judges felt was the best, made all the effort I put into photography over the years feel like it was paying off.”

Frantz Laferriere plans on attending college at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. She wants to either double major in sociology and linguistics with a minor in environmental studies or major in sociology with a double minor in linguistics and environmental studies to get a criminology degree to later become a criminal behavioral analyst after college. McGill’s academic rigor and location is what makes the college perfect to Frantz Laferriere.

“McGill is a world renowned university, it’s consistently ranked top three in Canada and top 50 in the entire world,” Frantz Laferriere said. “As a Canadian who has been away from Canada for quite a number of years it seems like a nice idea to be able to go back to a country I appreciate so much and I rarely ever get to see.”

While attending McGill University, Frantz Laferriere plans to continue her passion for photography and try to get her art displayed in a gallery at Montreal. She also plans on joining the school paper called The McGill Daily to further her passion for journalism.

“McGill has a very good student photography society, I am going to continue my photography there and focus more on my darkroom and street photography living in a city. They have a very good art community and they do annual shows within the city where students can submit art and possibly have it displayed in a gallery in Montreal which would be so amazing and absolutely a dream come true,” Frantz Laferriere said. “I think I’ll definitely join the school paper for McGill and continue my journalism.”

The high school career of Frantz Laferriere is just the beginning of what she will accomplish throughout her life. Clover Hill will miss such an extraordinary young woman, but whether she is at McGill University or at her dream job, she will find the utmost success in any path she will take.
