As Senior Shayni Gogineni finishes her K-12 career, she leaves a mark on her chosen Cavalier family.

From being enrolled in the Math and Science Specialty Center at Clover Hill to participating in 17 before/after school clubs, Gogineni has created a strong reputation.

Throughout high school, Gogineni stayed deeply involved in school life, participating in a wide range of clubs and leadership roles. For Gogineni, these experiences were more than just extracurriculars, they helped shape her identity throughout high school.

“I’ve been involved in a wide range of clubs throughout high school, which really helped me grow and find my interests. Some of the main ones include Red Cross Club, where I served as Vice President, BETA Club, Spanish Club Officer, CHHS Food Pantry co-leader, Speech and Debate, Academic Team, Photography Club Senior Lead, Biology Club, and Environmental/Earth Club Historian,” Gogineni said.

She also balanced her academic involvement with athletics, competing as a varsity track and field athlete, as well as playing on the varsity girls basketball team. Through sports, she learned discipline, teamwork, and perseverance.

“Yes, I’ve been a student athlete throughout high school. I ran varsity track and field, mainly competing in the 400m and 800m, and I was also on the varsity girls basketball team. Both sports taught me discipline, teamwork, and how to push myself even when things get tough,” Gogineni said.

Looking back on her time at Clover Hill, Gogineni hopes her legacy reflects both her involvement and her commitment to building a positive learning environment.

“I hope my legacy is someone who was involved and made a positive impact on the school community. I tried to show school spirit by participating in events like football games, spirit weeks, and fundraisers, while also giving back through leadership roles, especially with the CHHS Food Pantry. More than anything, I hope I helped create a more connected and supportive environment for others,” Gogineni said.

Gogineni admitted that she did not feel prepared entering high school, but said the experience ultimately pushed her to grow.

“Going into high school, I didn’t feel completely prepared, but I had a general idea of what to expect. Over time, I learned how to manage my responsibilities and grow as a student, especially through the Mathematics and Science Program. High school really helped me mature, build my mindset, and develop important skills that I’ll carry with me in the future,” Gogineni said.

To Clover Hill’s underclassmen, her advice centers on resilience and involvement.

“Don’t let failure define you, use it as a way to learn and improve. Always stand up for yourself and don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Get involved, try new things, and join clubs even if you’re unsure at first. Most importantly, just be yourself and show up every day ready to grow. High school goes by fast, so make the most of it,” Gogineni said.

If she could speak to her younger self, Gogineni says she would encourage more confidence and less stress.

“I would tell myself not to stress so much and to be more confident from the start. Try new opportunities without overthinking, and don’t be afraid of making mistakes. Everything works out over time, and those experiences help shape who you become,” Gogineni said.

Looking ahead, Gogineni plans to pursue a major in Biomedical Sciences or a related field, with hopes of becoming a doctor.

“I plan to major in biomedical sciences or another biology [or] medicine-related field, with a minor in fine arts. I chose this path because I want to become a doctor and make a positive impact on people’s health. My interest in science grew through research experiences, including my VJAS project where I studied glucose levels in fruits before and after cooking, and volunteering/shadowing at my local hospital as well. At the same time, I’ve always had a passion for music, singing, and dancing since I was very young,” Gogineni said.

As her time at Clover Hill comes to a close, Gogineni leaves behind more than a list of accomplishments, she leaves a lasting impression as a student who stayed involved, led with purpose, and worked to make her school community stronger.
