Announcements:

Starting Monday, Dec. 5, students will be able to purchase tickets to the seniors vs. faculty basketball game for three dollars during Cav Morning in room 007. Tickets are on sale until Thursday, Dec. 15 and the game is on Friday, Dec. 16. 

Lost and found, located in the clinic, is full. Any students missing personal items can stop by and check it. 

Dec. 15 is the last day for seniors to order their caps and gowns on hjvirginia.com before the prices go up. 

The library is hosting World Cup trivia during Cav Morning on Thursday, Dec. 8. It is open to all students, and teams of four can sign up for one of the limited spots in the library. The winners will receive a prize.

Any students interested in doing Behind the Wheel can sign up with Ms. Lambert in the front of the library Mondays and Tuesdays before first block. 

The deadline for seniors to submit their bios and quotes for the yearbook is this Friday. They can do so through the google form sent out by their English teacher.

The Environmental Club is accepting donations of used paper in room 008.

 

Last week:

Both the boys and the girls swim teams defeated Matoaca on Tuesday, Nov. 29. The boys’ relay team of sophomore Spencer Campbell, sophomore Tate Bupp, junior Andrew Webster and freshman Carson Ellenberger qualified for the state meet. Campbell also advanced to the state meet individually in the 100 meter fly.

Theatre on the Hill performed their first play of the year, “Get Smart,” from Dec. 1 to Dec. 3. 

Senior Izzy Carter and junior Mikalah Lynch won all-county player of the year for girls volleyball and competition cheer, respectively. 

James Wahrman won all-county cross country coach of the year following the boys team’s second place finish at the state meet.

The indoor track team began their season at the Virginia Beach Opener. Senior Andrew Bennett and junior Caleb Wilcox finished first and second in the 1600 meter run, with Bennett qualifying for states. Freshman Malaysia Rasheed finished seventh in the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.43 seconds. Senior Chris Henry finished sixth in the 55 meter dash crossing the finish line in 6.79 seconds. Sophomore Nathan McCrea finished second in the long jump. Junior Torie Satterwhite earned fifth place in the 300 meter dash after finishing in 42.62 seconds. Junior Clinton Clancy, freshman Ethan Thorne and junior Andrew Hathaway finished second, third and fifth respectively in the 3200 meter run. Finally, senior Vincent Shelah finished fifth in the shot put.

 

This week:

Monday (12/5):

The step team will practice from 3:30-4:00 p.m. in the commons. 

The boys basketball teams will play against Huguenot at home. Junior varsity starts at 5:45 p.m. and varsity starts at 7:15 p.m.

 

Tuesday (12/6):

Cavs Connect will meet during Cav Morning in room 128 to make “thank you” posters for the custodians and cafeteria staff.

The toilet party will hold their first meeting after school in room 308.

 

Wednesday (12/7): 

The library is hosting Workshop Wednesday during Cav Morning to make beaded bracelets. All students are welcome to attend, and they can grab a pass in the library.

The step team will practice from 3:30-4:00 p.m. in the commons.

 

Thursday (12/8):

The girls basketball teams will play against Manchester at home. Junior varsity starts at 5:45 p.m. and varsity starts at 7:15 p.m. 

The junior varsity wrestling team will participate in a competition at Hanover High School starting at 5:30 p.m.

The Academy for the Arts fall showcase will be in the forum from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. 

 

Friday (12/9):

Boys basketball will play against Manchester on the road. Junior varsity starts at 5:45 p.m. and varsity starts at 7:15 p.m. 

 

Saturday (12/10):

The indoor track and field team will compete in their second meet of the year in the J.R. Tucker Winter Classic at J.R. Tucker High School.
