Imagine walking into your local Target on November first. What do you expect to see? Leftover candy? Discounted costumes? Or would you expect to see the growing tendency of stores to put out Christmas decorations and items a month early?
The “Christmas Creep” is a phenomenon where people seem to start celebrating Christmas earlier and earlier each year. The monetary reason behind this is that people will logically buy stuff a lot sooner and extend the season which is almost every brand’s best-selling period of the year, Christmas time.
According to a piece by northjersey.com, Winter decorations being put up early gives people a feeling of magic that they cannot find anywhere else. To the contrary, some may argue that this ruins the excitement of other fall celebrations, like Halloween and Thanksgiving.
Opinions vary, seeing as freshmen Patrick “PJ” Elbert and Kaira Pearl think that it is too early, but Robert “Jack” Nichols thinks Christmas music is acceptable the entirety of the year.
Elbert is in the marching band, and he details their music shift to the holidays.
“I used to think it’s too early, but the band already started playing Christmas music, so I don’t care anymore,” Elbert said.
Freshman Derion Lee says that it’s never too early to start celebrating Christmas.
“Christmas music starts in June,” Lee said.
To add on to that, 35% of students at Clover Hill think it is too early to celebrate and decorate when polled.
Whether you wait until Thanksgiving is over or not, Christmas seems to be coming faster every year due to this cultural phenomenon that is the Christmas Creep.

I think that puting Christmas stuff out in November takes away from the chrismas exsperence, yes puting it out before Christmas may feel exsiding because your ready for it to come. But I think when you do that by the time the special days comes it doesn’t feel the same. My claim for that is 35%of stuents say its to early and i agree.
