After a year of rumors, questions, and speculation surrounding the intersection connecting Genito and Kelly Green Lane, Locals, parents, students, and teachers alike are still waiting for a solution to traffic.
With the construction of The Lake bringing many new attractions connected to the intersection, including a Starbucks, Chipotle, and a Soccer Post, traffic has increased significantly.
Along with new attractions at the intersection, students and coaches from all across the county commute to River City Sportsplex for sports, making congestion inevitable, increasing chances for accidents.
Chesterfield County has added small dividers to restrict the intersection, preventing students from taking a blind left turn while exiting. While this stops drivers from taking dangerous turns, it has only increased traffic before and after school.
Clover Hill High School senior Will Lohr expressed his frustration with the traffic while coming to school in the morning, stating that a light would quickly solve the problem.
“There are times when I have to wait a decent amount of time because there’s just so much traffic coming through, and I feel like a light would help regulate that and get it flowing a bit better,” Lohr said.
With changes already being made, students feel that a light is inevitable, but Clover Hill office manager Jayla Ford claims the county has stated otherwise.
“There was a county planning meeting that some people attended in the community where they met about this, and they decided that because of where the lights already are on Genito, they couldn’t add another one due to where the fire station is, and the next light,” Ford said.
With the future addition of the lake projected to be finished by the end of this year, the county’s plans for a light may change, but time will only tell. So as a community, people are continuing to work together and advocate to ensure the intersection is as safe as possible for young drivers attending Clover Hill High School.

I agree that their should be a light at the intersection because with all of the traffic coming through their is bound to be accidents that my self personally have witnessed however i do understand why they wouldnt want to add a light from their point of view but i still stand on the side that they should as the student stated their is too much traffic to handle.
