The Field hockey season has officially ended, and the team finished their challenging season with a 6-12 record.
This team was introduced to two new coaches this season. Although it is difficult to have a brand new coach, they worked well with the student athletes. Senior Campbell Redding understood that the coaching change positively influenced the team.
“We had a coaching change early on, but I think it’s helped us in the long run,” Redding said.
The team chemistry on the field hockey team helped players better understand each other as friends, and as players.
“Our team chemistry is good. We do team dinners and hang out before games, so I think all that helps,” Redding said.
Many sophomores on the varsity team did well this year keeping up with the seniors and making an important impact on the field. Meredith Greer, Clover Hill Senior, thought that their contribution to the team stood out.
“We have three or four sophomores on varsity this year, and I think they’ve done a really good job of stepping up and taking every new challenge as it comes to them,” Greer said.
Putting aside their overall record, the team has been performing well but the players understand there are areas that they can improve.
“It’s not so much our physicality, but I think our overall performance that has been the struggle, so we’re trying to work on that,” Greer said.
This year’s team was filled with positive leadership and role models. The captains helped the chemistry of the team and they gave positive feedback to boost their teammates’ confidence. The captains also played a big role in controlling practices and helping their teammates succeed.
“Our captains do a really good job leading practices and uplifting all the players on the field and off the field,” Greer said.
The girls field hockey season ended with a decent record, while they are ready to pick it up next year and improve their team.
