Twelve Clover Hill seniors signed their letters of intent to pursue athletics at the collegiate level on Tues. April 28. The following students took part in this year’s signing day:

Rasean Carter – Track and Field – South Carolina State University

Kara Harris – Track and Field – College of William and Mary

Josh Taylor – Cross Country – College of William and Mary

Kyra Williams – Track and Field – Virginia Commonwealth University

Carson Hupp – Baseball – Washington and Lee University

Owen Tingen – Baseball – Guilford College

Brianna Miller – Softball – University of Maryland, Baltimore County

Kristyn Niles – Softball – Christopher Newport University

Brooke Elam – Basketball – Eastern Mennonite University

Erik Szabo – Swimming – Washington and Lee University

Chasya Deliazard– Volleyball – Pennsylvania State University at Harrisonburg–Capital College

Organized by Clover Hill teacher and baseball coach Brett Mooney, the event welcomed family, friends, coaches, and teammates to celebrate students’ athletic achievements. Members of the track, cross country, baseball, softball, swimming, womens volleyball, and womens basketball teams were all invited to attend the event during both the first and second block of the school day.

Rasean Carter’s signing day moment marked the end of a long and rocky journey and the start to a new one that he’s been chasing for years. The senior thrower committed to South Carolina State University for track and field where he plans to pursue his interest in studying marketing. He chose to attend the HBCU because of their training facilities and atmosphere.

“[I] Committed to South Carolina State, for track and field. I committed here because when I toured there, it was just an overall great atmosphere. Their equipment and facilities were just great, and I knew I wanted to go to HBCU and also compete at the D1 level, so that was just killing two birds with one stone,” Carter said.

Carson Hupp, a baseball commit for Washington and Lee, thought highly of last week’s signing day event.

“I thought the event was really fun, and it was great seeing all the other athletes in the school show how grateful they were for their opportunities to play, as am I,” Hupp said.

Brianna Miller spoke about her hardships and those that helped her along the way leading up to her commitment.

“I think my overall journey there’s been ups and downs, but for the most part, it’s been great,” Miller said. “I think my teammates from all of my different teams really helped me. We were all in the same position of trying to get recruited, trying to commit, and we all just helped each other through that because the recruitment process is brutal.”
