The Clover Hill Boys Volleyball team used their strong team chemistry and skilled players to win games this season. The bonds they built off the court helped them to communicate with each other during games and stay composed under pressure. Senior and Team Captain Liam McCandlish sees this as their biggest strength.
“The strength of our team is our chemistry and our strong ability to work together as a team. Everyone on the team are really good friends, and our ability to work together is really good,” McCandlish said.
All of the players are friends outside of volleyball and hangout frequently, which is what helped them build this bond together.
“Every Friday after practice we would hangout at someone’s house and have a cookout or something else,” McCandlish said.

All of the captains played a huge role in leading the team, and them taking initiative is what led to the team’s success.
“As a captain, we’ve led this season by creating practice plans, running practices, creating lineups, really showing how we want our drills to be run like with the right intentions and mentalities,” McCandlish said.
The team was able to rotate players on and off the bench consistently due to their depth and high performing underclassmen who were able to give other players breaks.
“When some people aren’t in the right mindset or aren’t fully locked in, we have people to give them time to recuperate and get back into the game,” McCandlish said.
Charlie Lane and Mickey Rivera are two underclassmen who were starters this season and both stood out on the team.
“Charlie’s done a great job providing consistent blocks and hits as the middle position, and then Mickey has done a great job as an outside to great passes and great serves,” McCandlish said.
The Clover Hill boys volleyball team had a solid season, they found a rhythm that worked well for them with the depth of players, strong connections, and underclassmen stepping up to fill roles. With this strong leadership, the team’s future is looking bright. If they keep this momentum going they’ll be a team to look out for in seasons to come.
