The Kansas City Chiefs have gone from making it to the Super Bowl three times in a row, and winning two, to having a current record of six-eleven. The Chiefs are seen challenging themselves to hold onto their chance of making it an eighth time.
The Chiefs are a part of the NFL (National Football League), a professional football league, where players participate in American Football. There are team presidents, a head coach with assistant coaches, and football players who all come from different backgrounds. The NFL is a diverse league, providing opportunities for players and coaches.
From 2020 to 2025 (skipping year 2022,) the Chiefs made it to the Super Bowl. In those four games, they have won three. Last year, they lost to the Philadelphia Eagles, who they had beaten two years before. This year, the Chiefs have not kept up with their track record, losing to major teams they have beaten in years prior.
As the Chiefs fight to make it to the playoffs, competing for a spot at the Super Bowl are around 40-50% entering week 14. The stakes are high, leaving the fate of the team in the hands of Andy Reid, Head Coach, and Patrick Mahomes, Starting Quarterback.
Shimriya Tariq, a MathSci sophomore, was asked how she felt about the Chiefs’ track record and what adjustments she believes they should make.
“I think they should lock in and take Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce (Tight End) out of the game so they can focus. All of the attention has been on Taylor Swift and Travis, and Patrick is jealous because Travis has been getting all the commercials. Like, we’re happy for you, but continue earning millions,” Tariq said.
It is safe to say the chances of the Chiefs turning it around are running out. Let’s see how or if they turn it around!

The Kansas City Chiefs are likely fine despite their 6–11 record in the 2025 season, as this downfall appears to be caused by extreme circumstances. Evidence shows the team suffered from a 1–9 record in one-score games and lost superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes to a season-ending ACL tear in Week 15. This reasoning suggests that their first losing season since 2012 was driven by historic bad luck and injuries rather than a collapse of the franchise. With a healthy Mahomes returning and a point differential that suggests they were actually a 9.5-win team, the Chiefs are well-positioned to contend again in 2026.
