The Cavalier Chronicle has selected Women’s Basketball player Abby Heath as January Athlete of the Month. Abby had a consistent positive attitude throughout the season, which helped her not only lead her team to victory, but help herself perform to the best of her abilities.

“I really kept my focus on what we were improving on, focusing on what my teammates were doing well, and what I was doing well. Then we focused on getting better as a team,” Heath said.

It is important to always keep a positive mindset and help out teammates when they need it throughout the game. Abby was a true leader that used discipline to help herself and teammates. Not only did this help their team play better as a whole, but it helped them fight out tough wins.

“I led my team through encouraging words and always keeping a good attitude. I also kept a good mindset and constantly had good discipline. I was able to continue to compete well against difficult teams,” Heath said.

While they were playing competitively, the team always finished a game or practice with a smile on their face.

“Each game, we just had fun, even if we weren’t doing very well. This just made the game more lighthearted which made the whole season more enjoyable,” Heath said.

Abby Heath continued to play competitive defense to stop opponents from scoring. She led her team’s defense successfully.

“My strength was definitely on defense. It involved defending the other team and getting steals which helped my team to score more points,” Heath said.

Clover Hills coach continued to help players including Abby Heath to improve throughout the season. Abby continued to take advice and it overall helped her improve.

“Our coach was constantly telling us things that we need to improve on and really just trying his best to improve us as players and just people in general,” Heath said.

These players are excited to play varsity next year and are looking forward to a new challenge.
